WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 1,000th football game in Hampton University history was a Classic.

Quarterback David Watford continued his prolific start to the season, rushing for two touchdowns and passing for a third score, to lead the Pirates to a 37-19 victory over the Howard Bison in the AT&T Nation’s Football Classic before a crowd of 16,342 on Friday night at RFK Stadium.

Showcase your tailgating skills in the designated tailgate lot (Lot 8) during the Pepsi Block Party. Three judges will circle the lot in search for the most creative and unique tailgate to receive the title of the 2016 Tailgate Champion!

Want to increase your chances of being noticed? Post photos of your tailgate on social media with the hashtag #TailgateBattle. We will display your photos on the stadium videoboard throughout the game. The first place winner will be announced during halftime and will receive an official Nation’s Football Classic prize pack!

General RFK Stadium Tailgating Guidelines

Use of more than one parking spot for tailgating will result in paying for two (2) parking spaces. Please note that vehicles cannot obstruct driving lanes.
Porta Johns are provided in RFK Stadium parking lots.
In order for all guests to enjoy the tailgating experience, we ask that fans follow these guidelines:

  • Tailgating is only allowed in Lot 8. All lots will be monitored for violations of this rule.
  • Use of an empty parking space for tailgating in designated areas
  • When parking, park your car in one space only and between the white lines.
  • Parking permits if applicable are to be used for cars only, not for additional tailgating space or storage.
  • Be considerate of other guests' vehicles.
  • For the safety of all guests and for emergency vehicle access, please keep all aisles and driving lanes clear.
  • Dispose of all trash in proper receptacles.
  • RFK Stadium does not provide a water source for the purpose of extinguishing flames or to fill up supplies.
  • Prior to exiting, please extinguish all flames and grills properly (i.e. water, ice, dirt, etc.). Do NOT place a hot grill in or under any vehicle. Do NOT place a grill on grass areas. 
  • The District of Columbia requires tenting permit for a 20’x20’ tent or larger.  For permit information, please visit www.dcra.dc.gov

From National Airport
Exit National Airport and follow signs for I-395 and 50 West to Washington. On the George Washington Parkway, take the exit for I-395 North. Stay on 395 North, across the Potomac River, for about three miles. Once past the Maine Avenue exit, stay in the left lane of the freeway. I-395 will exit right, to the Capitol and Senate buildings. Do not follow I-395 North; stay left for the stadium. Proceed straight ahead in the left lanes to the exit at Sixth Street Southeast and Navy Yard. At the bottom of the ramp, go left at the traffic light onto 6th Street. Stay on 6th Street for .05 miles to Independence Avenue. Turn right onto Independence Avenue and stay on Independence Avenue for 1.1 miles to 19th Street. Turn left onto 19th Street and travel one block to East Capitol Street. Turn right on East Capitol Street to the stadium.

From Union Station
Go east from Union Station along Massachusetts Avenue. Continue past Stanton Square on Massachusetts Avenue to Lincoln Park (at 12th Street). Go around Lincoln Park to East Capitol Street and turn right onto East Capitol Street. Follow East Capitol Street to the stadium.

From I-66 and Constitution Avenue
Follow Constitution Avenue east past the Capitol to Maryland Avenue. Turn left on Maryland Avenue and go two blocks to Stanton Square. At Stanton Square, turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue. On Massachusetts Avenue, follow directions from Union Station.

From I-95/Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Baltimore
Follow I-95 South (merge with I-495 toward Virginia). Exit onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway South toward D.C. On the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, follow the signs toward I-295. Take the East Capitol Street exit.

 

By Metro

RFK Stadium is easily accessible by Metrorail’s Blue/Orange Line. Stop is Stadium-Armory Station.
